Check out Real-World Lutron Shading Ideas for Everyday Comfort
Good window treatments can shape how your home feels at 8 a.m., how comfortable it stays on a bright afternoon, and how private it seems after dark. But in many homes, shades aren’t just a finishing touch. They have to work around real architecture, tricky window operation, natural light, and design details that homeowners care about deeply.
With the right planning, however, you can tuck shades out of sight, protect a view without turning your room into a cave, and choose finishes that blend in instead of calling attention to themselves. In the sections ahead, we’ll walk through three shading projects completed by the team at MGi Systems, each with a different challenge and a different solution. Let’s dive in and explore what’s possible!

Hidden Lutron Shades for a Cozy Space
This project focused on keeping motorized shades completely out of sight in a room with German tilt-and-turn windows that open inward. That window style leaves very little room for shade housings and soffits, making coordination critical.
MGi Systems installed wired Lutron shades inside recessed pockets, carefully aligning every dimension so the windows could open freely without interference. The clearances were extremely tight, yet the result feels effortless. When the shades are raised, they disappear entirely. When lowered, they manage light and privacy without disrupting the room’s design. Paired with a 75-inch Samsung Frame TV and a Leon custom teak soundbar, the space stays warm, comfortable, and visually clean, showing how thoughtful shading can support architecture and everyday living.
Automated Shades for Lakefront Windows
This home features a dramatic wall of windows overlooking the lake, making natural light and views a central part of the design. The challenge was finding a shading solution that protected privacy and reduced glare without cutting the homeowners off from the scenery outside.
Fabric selection played a major role in this project. MGi Systems helped choose a material that filters sunlight and softens the space, while still allowing clear visibility to the lake. The shades reduce harsh afternoon light and heat, yet the room never feels closed in. All shades are automated and controlled through wall keypads integrated into the Control4 system. With a simple button press, the homeowners can adjust light levels throughout the day, keeping the space comfortable and connected to the outdoors.
Battery-Powered Shades That Blend In
In this project, the design goal was for the shades to feel like part of the windows themselves. The home features black window frames, which meant standard shade hardware would stand out more than desired.
MGi Systems selected Lutron battery-powered shades paired with Lutron’s black architectural fascia. The finish closely matches the window frames, allowing the shade housings to visually blend in rather than draw attention. When the shades are in place, they almost disappear into the window design. This approach shows how finish options and hardware choices play a meaningful role in shading design. With the right selections, motorized shades can enhance the architecture instead of interrupting it.
